Track Talk

April 12, 2020May 12, 2020 Dave MashinoLeave a comment

I am a member of the Central Indiana Division of the NMRA. We usually have quarterly modeler's meets in which we have someone give a presentation on something related to the hobby and have a time to discuss and show some of the projects the attendees are working on. Last year we also started having… Continue reading Track Talk →

Roundhouse

April 10, 2020April 10, 2020 Dave MashinoLeave a comment

I managed to get the walls erected and a few interior details in place. Ready to add the roof, but it seems a shame. I had forgotten what a pain in the rear those doors are to get installed. Now if there was just some scenery to complete the picture!

Various Projects

April 6, 2020 Dave MashinoLeave a comment

Well, I'm still working my regular job for the time being, so I have not had as much time to work on the layout as some folks. I have been able to work on several things over the last week or two, though. I cleaned and re-arranged the shop where I do my rough work.… Continue reading Various Projects →

Not a Good Day

March 27, 2020 Dave MashinoLeave a comment

No pictures, no happy talk, it's been a bad week. No, I haven't contracted Covid-19, that I'm aware of anyway, but it is hard to get excited about much. I read that the US now leads the world in confirmed cases, and we've been testing a small percentage of people. We've also got an inept… Continue reading Not a Good Day →

OK, I’m a little excited…

March 10, 2020March 22, 2020 Dave MashinoLeave a comment

One aspect of the layout that I have been working on is lighting and with the help of an article on MRH by Geoff Bunza, I have finally put the last piece of that puzzle together. I have been planning to use LED strip lighting for the layout. I'd like to be able to control… Continue reading OK, I’m a little excited… →

Spring time?

March 9, 2020 Dave MashinoLeave a comment

It was a beautiful day today in Indiana, Tucker and I took a break from working inside to set on the deck for a bit and soak in a little sunshine this afternoon. He played with a stick and I had a beverage. We had been down in the train room most of the day,… Continue reading Spring time? →

Turntable Up and Running

March 2, 2020 Dave MashinoLeave a comment

I've been working on the layout and really not taken any time to update my blog. I plan for this blog to be a diary of the process of constructing the layout so I need to do better. This box was made for the control panel to mount to the facia above. Painted black and… Continue reading Turntable Up and Running →

The WVR in JMRI

January 9, 2020 Dave MashinoLeave a comment

The WVR in JMRI! One of the presents I received for Christmas from my wife - A new 24" touchscreen monitor! Shown is the current rendition of the WRV in the JMRI layout editor in all it's splendor. The outer track, on the top, left side and bottom is the upper level. The dashed portion… Continue reading The WVR in JMRI →

Turntable Progress

December 30, 2019December 30, 2019 Dave MashinoLeave a comment

I've taken a break from tracklaying and have started some more work on the turntable and roundhouse area. I've got the roundhouse tracks in place and looking pretty good. I added rail joiners above the split line in the two sections to keep things smooth. I decided to use rail joiners in the track joints… Continue reading Turntable Progress →

Christmas Break

December 24, 2019 Dave MashinoLeave a comment

We made some progress this week on the WVR. I'm taking vacation this week and between chores to get ready for our family Christmas Eve celebration, I've taken a little time to work on the railroad. The track layers were in to add 2 more blocks of track (about 30 feet). I'm using 1/2" plywood… Continue reading Christmas Break →
